OK, they ARE about equal overall, BUT it depends on the use which is
better... The 55 and 60 are both excellent in the center at all stops
and focus distances. Some people don't seem to notice soft corners,
but for me a lens that is soft in the corners at a particular stop
is not sharp at that stop. The 55 at infinity has good corners starting
at f2.8-4, the 60 at infinity is poor in the corners (two samples)
until f8-11 - rather poor performance for a "normal" prime lens, I
think, though most of the frame is very sharp by f5.6. At 1/2 life-size,
the lenses reverse. The 55 is good, though needs stopping down for best results - the 60 is exceptionally good, and good enough to freely use
(stopped down) on converters for high-quality macro images. I would not
use a 60 as a general-purpose lens, but the 55 can be used that way.
